Dwelling
AZLING Chandler
I am home to a body that is susceptible to lethargy. I struggle to find symbiosis between my metaphysical self and my corporal self.
Behind the Scenes
What inspired you to create this work?
Last year I got really into Steve Reich's music. Since it’s minimal music it has relatively simple melodies and a lot of repetition, but I felt a complexity of emotions in it. I wanted to create an animation that would complement this kind of music.
What difficulties did you face?
I depicted hands using beeswax clay, but despite using tools like scrapers, I ended up manipulating the clay with my fingers, which would hurt after a while. Beeswax clay hardens quickly as it cools, which made it challenging to work with.
What did you try or do differently this time compared to your past work?
For the first time, I tried creating my own music since I’ve always been interested. Because it was minimal music, I experimented more with the texture of sounds than the melody, and it was really fun.
What is your next goal?
I want to experiment more with the movement of animation.
