introduction

In 2023, with the pandemic days finally over, we were able to start ridding ourselves of masks. We breathed in and we breathed out. We couldn’t help but be conscious of something that was once so easily overlooked. When we create, there are also moments when we take a step back and realize the value of what we have come to take for granted. We pick up those droplets and situate them in ourselves. They are then integrated into a timeline of our originality and released from us as animation. This process is much like the conscious breaths we have been taking this past year. The 15th cohort of the animation department chose “Breath” as the theme because we want to cherish those things that are easily omitted and yet so integral to our existence.
To encounter works of animation is like inhaling deeply on a green lawn. Like escaping from extreme suffocating heat. Like letting your imagination explode from a rich aroma. Like sucking in freezing air and feeling it course through your body. Later awaits the spurt of new leaves and the fresh scent that comes with it. Animation makes all of these experiences possible.
